Ah, home. Sitting at my desk, getting caught up on work stuff, still in my pajamas and two cups of coffee already consumed. It's nice to be off the road for a full week. My body is telling me that it needs sleep and healthy home-cooked food. I'm listening.
My friends are heading back to school this week and I'm sort of envious. Those first few days spent getting caught up with colleagues, prepping the classroom, buying new school supplies, and eagerly anticipating the arrival of those squirmy new students are moments I cherished and miss. (But I also remember how difficult the transition was from 'summer brain' to 'school brain' and how early the alarm went off. I don't miss that quite as much.)
The start of a new school year is so filled with hope, anticipation, goal-setting, and focus. I love that. This is the time when teachers commit to new practices, fulfilling relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, and have the opportunity to do it even better THIS year. Amazing. The gift of a 'fresh start' is tremendous and I honor those that take full advantage of this.
Think I'll head to Target this week to get my own new school supplies (I've always been a sucker for cheap notebooks and gel pens) and commit to a 'fresh start' myself... Awesome.
